Why isn't my American twist working?
When nail extensions don't last, the causes are numerous, depending on the technique used. A well-executed American manicure should last up to four weeks. In my opinion, here are the most common reasons why an American manicure might not last.
Natural nail preparation.
Preparation is very important. Thoroughly degreasing and preparing the nail surface before applying primer and gel remains a critical element. Skipping this step compromises the longevity of the application.
The right amount of product.
If not enough gel is applied to the tip, there's a risk of empty pockets inside the tip, which doesn't guarantee optimal adhesion. Conversely, if too much gel is applied, it might overflow onto the skin, which can also potentially cause lifting. When too much gel is applied, it's crucial to clean the skin with a cleaner before curing.

Choosing the right size.
A tip that's too small doesn't provide the correct structure; it might "pop off" in the days following application. If the extension is long, it would experience too much pressure to stay adhered, and at the slightest impact, it could also break.
A tip that's too large cannot adhere completely to the nail; the edges, extending beyond the nail's contours, would come into contact with the skin and eventually lift.
To choose the right size, the tip must perfectly cover the entire nail from edge to edge. If the tip resists or needs to be forced even slightly, it means it's too small. If the tip extends beyond the nail's lateral edges, it's too large. If necessary, you can lightly file the contours of the tip, especially the part near the cuticle, to adjust it to the natural nail.
Poor quality products.
Products from the Chinese market are likely cheaper compared to those from well-known brands, but they offer no guarantee regarding their safety, ingredient quality, or, even less, their holding power.
And a final, not insignificant point.....
The technique!
Yes, even if the American manicure is easy and quick, mastering the technique is essential. Knowing how much gel to apply to the tip and the pressure to exert on the nail just before curing with the mini lamp... in fact, it's not complicated; you'll quickly "feel" how to do it with practice.
Gel tips are truly flexible and adaptable to most nails. That said, as a professional or experienced amateur, adjustments can be made (because the nail structure is known). Sometimes, a little filing of the free edges is necessary, and most of the time, the tip is slightly refined with a drill towards the cuticles.
The good news is that the technique develops with practice. You still need to learn the right movements, but once acquired, perfection will come with practice, and you will love creating beautiful, quick, and durable applications! :)
